Yes! It is chokecherry time again at Barn Anew Bed and Breakfast and the branches are bending low with their load of dark, juicy, ripe berries. Bizillions of them! Friends and neighbors have been driving into the yard for the last several days, baskets in hand. Of course, the ones in the top branches always look the best, so that means that ladders have to be unloaded, turning the quest into more of an adventure. The berries will last for several more weeks, as the dark maroon ones are picked and the lighter red ones are left to sweeten and ripen in the August sun. Chokecherry syrup is our favorite, but jellies and jams are delicious too, and yes, even chokecherry pie.
